1-1 Advocacy in Action Package Details
The fee for the 1-1 Advocacy in Action Package is $2,850 CAD.
The 1-1 Advocacy in Action Package is a personalized, 9-week coaching and consulting partnership designed to help you maximize your influence at the school level and get tangible results. I’m Jenn, an experienced educator and advocate based in BC, and I guide parents like you through a proven, step-by-step process tailored for impactful change within the school environment.
My approach is neuro-affirming and rights-based, meaning I believe in:
- Fostering collaborative solutions: While firmly upholding rights, I aim for respectful and productive partnerships with school teams whenever possible, advocating for solutions that truly meet your child’s needs.
- A Rights-Based Perspective: Ensuring your child receives the education and support they are entitled to within provincial and school district policies.
- An Affirming Lens: My approach starts with recognizing each child’s unique brain wiring rather than a focus on “deficits”.
To ensure a smooth and focused experience, please review the information below.
The 1-1 Advocacy in Action Package runs in three focused 9-week cycles throughout the school year. While spots are limited to ensure personalized support, each cycle offers unique strategic advantages depending on your child’s needs and the advocacy tasks at hand.
Fall Cycle
Ideal for: Parents who want to proactively set up the school year for success, get ahead of potential challenges, or are preparing for their child’s annual Individual Education Plan (IEP) meeting (often held in the fall). This cycle is perfect if you want me by your side for that critical autumn IEP review, ensuring a strong foundation for the year.
Winter Cycle
Ideal for: Addressing new or lingering concerns that emerge after the initial school term, navigating a new diagnosis that requires immediate school collaboration, or when the relationship with the school team has become strained and needs strategic repair. This is a powerful time to regroup and implement mid-year shifts for your child’s support.
Spring Cycle
Ideal for: Planning a smooth kindergarten transition for your child, preparing for a transition to a new school in September (e.g., elementary to middle, middle to high school), or conducting spring IEP reviews. This cycle allows for strategic planning that impacts the following school year, setting your child up for future success.
Your 1-1 Advocacy in Action Package is a 9-week personalized support package structured to build your advocacy expertise and get tangible results from your efforts through expert guidance and direct support engaging with the school team. Here’s exactly what you’ll receive:
Five (5) Focused 1:1 Strategic Coaching Calls:
- Week 1: Child & context deep dive to understand your child’s needs and the current educational context, and to identify your specific concern/outcome.
- Week 3: 30-minute action plan call to ensure we have a clear, actionable plan in place, address any immediate questions, and refine tactics towards your goal.
- Week 5: 30-minute tactical support & meeting prep call, specifically preparing you for your included school meeting.
- Week 7: 30-minute check-in & course correction call to address any emerging questions and refine tactics.
- Week 9: 60-minute review & future planning call to solidify your progress and strategize your ongoing advocacy.
One (1) Virtual School Meeting Attendance:I will attend one virtual school meeting (up to 2 hours in duration) with you. This includes dedicated pre-meeting strategy (1.5 hours) and a post-meeting debrief and action planning session (1 hour) to maximize its impact.
Strategic Document Review:
- I will conduct a focused review of up to 30 pages of critical documents directly related to your specific concern and the single school team meeting you will attend. This review is strictly for strategic input to inform my meeting preparation and advocacy plan.
- Required Documents for Review: This must include your child’s current Individual Education Plan (IEP) (and any separate written IEP review by the school team) and their most recent report card.
- Adjustments for Early Learners/No IEP: For children without a current IEP or those just starting school, these requirements will be adjusted to focus on available relevant documentation (e.g., referral forms, initial school communications.
- Highly Recommended Documents: I also ideally require the most recent comprehensive assessment report, such as an autism assessment or a Psycho-Educational assessment report, if available.
Comprehensive Documentation Log Template: For cases with a long history or recurring concerns, I will provide you with a specialized template to create a detailed documentation log. This log, which you will complete, includes key dates, brief summaries of interactions, and associated documents (e.g., emails, meeting notes). This ensures I have a clear, organized understanding of your child’s history prior to our intake call.
Asynchronous Collaboration: Beyond our live calls, we’ll collaborate on your advocacy “homework” and strategic documents using Google Docs. This allows you to work on tasks and implement strategies at your own pace, when it best suits your schedule, with my ongoing feedback and input within the document.
Expertise in BC Educational Framework: This package includes my thorough understanding and application of all relevant British Columbia provincial education policies, pertinent case law that impacts education in BC, district-specific policies within BC, and the Canadian Human Rights Code as it applies to education in this province. My strategic guidance is built upon this specialized legal and policy framework, ensuring your advocacy is informed and effective within the BC context.
Curated Resource Library: Access to self-paced resources including templates for common letters/emails, foundational guides on understanding specific advocacy strategies, communication best practices, and tips for navigating the school system. These resources are designed to complement my work and guide your self-advocacy skill-building.
Strategic Email/Chat Support: Up to 2 exchanges per week for clarifying questions related to your action plan or resources. You can expect responses within 24 business hours (Monday – Friday).
Dedicated Weekly Time Slot: To ensure focused and consistent progress on your child’s advocacy goals, you will commit to and maintain a fixed, recurring time slot each week for the entire 9-week package duration. This dedicated block is reserved exclusively for your package activities.
Comprehensive Package Support: Beyond our scheduled 1:1 calls and the included meeting attendance, your package fee covers all the essential work I do behind the scenes to drive your child’s advocacy forward. This includes my time for document review and analysis, thorough preparation for all our calls and your school meeting, and dedicated time for communication management (email/chat) on your behalf.
To ensure the highest level of impact and a smooth, productive partnership throughout your 9-week support, I have the following key expectations for all participating parents:
- Active Participation & Implementation are Essential: This package is designed for clients who are ready to be active partners in their child’s advocacy journey. I will provide you with expert strategies, guidance, and “homework” (actionable tasks and items for you to work on between our calls). Your commitment to completing these tasks, implementing the strategies I co-create, and communicating openly is essential for achieving results. This is a “done-together” package, not a “done-by-me” service.
- Alignment with My Philosophy & Approach: My advocacy is rooted in a neuro-affirming and rights-based philosophy. This means I focus on understanding and valuing your child’s unique brain wiring. My strategies are designed to secure supports that truly meet their individual needs, foster their well-being, and protect their legal rights within the school system. I do not advocate for, or support, approaches that are compliance-based, punitive, or primarily focused on imposing neuro-normative expectations through behaviour modification programs. My goal is to help you advocate for an educational environment that acknowledges your child’s neurodivergent traits and supports their authentic self, rather than trying to change who they are to fit a predetermined mold. Your commitment to this foundational principle is essential for our partnership.
- Documentation Log Completion: If your child’s advocacy journey has a long history or involves recurring, unresolved concerns, you will be required to complete the provided Documentation Log template prior to our Week 1 Intake Call. This crucial pre-work helps me gain a comprehensive understanding of your child’s history and past interactions with the school team, informing my strategy from the outset.
- Google Account Required: My collaborative work, including document sharing and communication, will primarily take place using Google Drive, Meet and private chat (which will be a Google Chat space). Therefore, you will need an active Gmail account and comfort using these Google tools. Instructions for setting these up and using them effectively will be provided.
- Trust in Guidance & Collaborative Advocacy Mindset: My role is not only to provide direct advocacy support during your included school team meeting, but also to coach you on how to be a more effective advocate for your child’s unique needs long-term. My strategic guidance relies heavily on approaches that aim to build collaborative relationships with the school team, focusing on respectful communication, shared understanding of needs, and strategic problem-solving. This approach contrasts with trying to enforce a rigid, pre-determined vision of how things should look. Your willingness to engage in this collaborative advocacy mindset and defer to my strategic advice is critical for achieving sustainable results for your child.
- Focused Partnership: This package is designed as a direct, 1:1 partnership between you and me. To maintain clarity and efficiency, I do not directly consult or coordinate with other service providers (e.g., behaviour consultants, therapists, private tutors) on your behalf. My focus is on empowering you with the skills and strategies to lead your child’s advocacy effectively.
- Openness to Needs-Based Strategy over Pre-Determined Solutions: My role is to help you understand your child’s unique needs within the educational environment and to empower you with strategies for how those needs can be effectively met. While it’s natural to have ideas about what support might look like (e.g., a 1:1 support person), this package is not a good fit if you are rigidly committed to advocating for a pre-determined solution without openness to exploring diverse, needs-based strategies and effective interventions. My focus is on identifying and advocating for the underlying needs, and then collaboratively developing flexible and impactful approaches to address them, which may involve various forms of support. Your willingness to explore and implement needs-based strategies is essential for our partnership.
- School Team Meeting Timing: If you have a school team meeting already scheduled within three weeks of your package start date, this package may not be the ideal fit. I require these first three weeks to thoroughly review your background information, understand your specific concern, and strategically prepare for our included school team meeting to ensure we make the most impact. If rescheduling your existing meeting is not possible, please be aware that proceeding with a meeting before our preparation may mean our initial efforts are focused on navigating and addressing any outcomes from that meeting, rather than proactively strategizing for it. Your option would be to attempt to reschedule your school team meeting to occur beyond the first three weeks of your package.
- Inclusion of Additional Guardians/Service Providers in Meetings: If a second parent or guardian will be attending the included school team meeting, it is essential that they also participate in all relevant preparation calls and are fully on board with our agreed-upon strategy. To ensure clarity and avoid derailing our plan, other external service providers (e.g., private behaviour consultants, therapists) are generally not welcome to attend our preparation calls or the included school team meeting alongside us, as their presence can sometimes complicate or diverge from our unified advocacy strategy.
- Focus on BC Public School System: This package is specifically designed for families who are navigating the British Columbia Public School System. My expertise, strategies, and understanding of policies are exclusively focused on this context.
- Suitability for Package Effectiveness:
- This package is not a good fit if you currently have another active advocate working on your child’s behalf (such as a behaviour consultant who is actively engaging with the school on advocacy issues, or another private advocate). My package is designed to be the primary strategic guidance for your school advocacy during these 9 weeks.
- If there is active conflict or a lack of mutual understanding between parents/guardians regarding your child’s educational needs and advocacy strategies, this package will not be a good fit until a clear and unified approach can be established between all parties with legal guardianship. Where multiple guardians are engaged in school advocacy, I require a shared vision to ensure my strategic efforts are cohesive and effective.
Consistency in scheduled meeting times is vital for the smooth delivery of your support and effective progress.
- Dedicated Weekly Time Slot: To ensure focused and consistent progress on your child’s advocacy goals, you will commit to and maintain a fixed, recurring two-hour time slot each week for the entire 9-week package duration. This dedicated block is reserved exclusively for your package activities.
- The start time of this window will remain consistent each week. You need to be available during this entire slot for our scheduled 1:1 calls, and for any additional pre-meeting strategy sessions, virtual meeting attendance, or post-meeting debriefs.
- On my end, I dedicate this entire specific block each week to actively working on your child’s case. This includes not only our live calls but also my focused time for essential back-end work such as strategic document review (within the defined limits), detailed preparation for our sessions, and responding to your strategic communications. This ensures all aspects of your advocacy are consistently managed and progressed within dedicated time.
- Scheduled 1:1 Coaching Calls: Four core 1:1 calls are scheduled at specific points within this dedicated slot:
- Week 1: 75-minute Intake & Strategy Session
- Week 3: 45-minute Check-in & Course Correction
- Week 5: 45-minute Tactical Support & Meeting Prep
- Week 9: 75-minute Review & Future Planning
- Flexibility for Meeting-Related Sessions: While the core calls are fixed, your dedicated weekly time slot will ideally be used for your pre-meeting strategy, virtual meeting attendance, and post-meeting debrief for the one included school meeting. I understand that school team meeting schedules are not entirely within our control, so some flexibility may be required to accommodate the school’s availability for that single meeting. I will work closely with you to find a mutually agreeable time within or close to your dedicated slot when possible.
- Scheduling & Punctuality:
- All coaching calls are scheduled in advance. I request that you be punctual for all calls to maximize our time together. If you are more than 10 minutes late without prior notice, the call may be cancelled, and you may forfeit that session.
- If you need to reschedule a call, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice. Calls cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice may be forfeited.
To ensure I provide focused, high-quality support and achieve the best possible outcomes for your child, please be aware of the following:
- This Package is for one child only: My 1-1 Advocacy in Action Package is meticulously designed to support the needs and advocacy goals for one specific child per package enrolment. If you have other children who also require advocacy support, please contact me to discuss separate package enrolments or alternative service options.
- No Comprehensive Document Analysis: I do not provide in-depth, line-by-line review of all historical or extensive documentation. My focus is strategic input for specific, critical documents (up to 30 pages related to your one school meeting).
- No In-Person Meeting Attendance: All meeting attendance is virtual.
- No Attendance at Additional Meetings: This package includes support for one virtual school meeting only. Additional meetings are not included.
- No Crisis Intervention or 24/7 Support: While I aim for timely responses, this package is designed for strategic advocacy, not immediate crisis management. Response times are within business hours.
- No Legal Advice or Representation: I am an experienced advocate and consultant, but not a lawyer. I cannot provide legal advice or legal representation.
- No Guarantee of Specific Outcomes: While dedicated to achieving optimal results, specific outcomes in school district decisions cannot be guaranteed due to factors outside of my control.
- No Assumption of Parent’s Role: This is a guided package. I will provide strategies, tools, and support, but active participation and implementation of strategies by the parent are essential. I cannot do the work for you.
- Focus on School Advocacy (BC Only): My expertise is specialized in school advocacy within the BC Public School System for neurodivergent learners. While I understand that many factors impact your child’s well-being, my guidance will be focused specifically on educational strategies, legal rights within the school system, and communication with school teams. I cannot provide advice on medical treatments, therapeutic interventions outside of school, financial planning, or personal relationship coaching, nor does this package cover advocacy in educational systems outside of British Columbia.
- Exclusion of Other External Professionals in Meetings: Due to the focus on clear, unified strategy, this package does not include the attendance of other external service providers (e.g., private behaviour consultants, therapists) in my preparation calls or the included school team meeting alongside me, as their presence can sometimes complicate or diverge from my unified advocacy strategy.
- NOT for Formal Appeals or Complaints (Active or Planned): My expertise and this package are specifically tailored to maximizing the influence parents have at the school level and implementing change through strategic advocacy within the educational environment. Therefore, this package is not suitable for families who are currently actively engaged in, or planning to file, a Section 11 District Appeal or a Human Rights Complaint related to the specific concerns they seek support for. While our work might involve engaging a district administrator or support team for school-level concerns, my advocacy approach is exclusively designed to make the most impact at the school level, rather than supporting or preparing for formal legal or appeal proceedings.
When you enrol in the 1-1 Advocacy in Action Package, you are committing to the full 9-week personalized support package. This comprehensive package is designed for strategic, sustained support tailored specifically to your child. The fee covers the entire package, regardless of individual usage of specific components or the timeline of your child’s school processes.

Option 4: Full AFU Payment
- For clients with 100% AFU funding approval for the full $2,850 CAD package fee, no deposit is required.
- Your spot is secured solely upon my verification of full AFU funding approval in the portal and your signing of the Service Agreement.
I understand that AFU funding is a crucial support for many families. I am able to directly bill AFU through the service provider portal on your behalf under the following strict conditions. Please be aware that AFU funding is never guaranteed and decisions are made on a case-by-case basis, which impacts how I secure your payment for services rendered.
Funding Pre-Approval Is Paramount
- Your spot in this personalized 1-1 support package is NOT secured and services will NOT begin until I receive official confirmation of the full $2,850 CAD funding approval in the AFU portal for my specific services.
- I strongly encourage you to apply for your AFU funding before submitting your application to me, as approval times can vary (up to 6 weeks or longer).
- If full funding is not approved, or if the approved amount is insufficient to cover the full package fee, I will be unable to proceed with your enrolment.
Package Fee & AFU Hours Equivalent
- The $2,850 CAD fee for this 9-Week 1-1 Advocacy in Action Package is equivalent to 19 hours of direct support billed at $150 per hour. This reflects the comprehensive nature of the package, including direct client time, specialized document review, meeting preparation and attendance, and personalized strategic guidance.
AFU Funding for All Ages (Case-by-Case)
- I am able to accept AFU funding approvals for both children under 6 years of age and those 6 years and older, where my services are deemed eligible on a case-by-case basis by AFU. Families of children entering kindergarten or with younger children are welcome to apply.
Guidance for Request to Pay (RTP) Submission
- To assist you in effectively managing your AFU funding for my services, I recommend you submit the following information:
- Service Provider: Jennifer Scharf (Individual)
- Service Type: Behaviour Intervention
- Hourly Fee: $150
- Total: $2850
- It remains your responsibility to submit the RTP accurately and promptly to AFU.
Conditional Offers & Rolling Registration
- Please understand that even a conditional offer of a package spot does not guarantee immediate enrolment. My spots are filled on a rolling basis once full funding approval is confirmed and a Service Agreement is signed.
- Delays in AFU funding approval or RTP submission may result in your conditional spot being filled by another client, in which case you will be offered a secured spot in the next available Package cycle upon your funding confirmation.
AFU Pre-Approval is Not a Commitment to Be Billed (Unless Services Begin)
- I want to assure you that obtaining AFU funding approval (or pre-approval) for my services does NOT mean you will be billed if we don’t end up working together.
- If, for any reason (e.g., we’re not a mutual fit, your conditional spot is filled, or you decide not to proceed with my package), my service agreement is not fully executed and you don’t start the services with me, you will not be charged by me, and I will not bill AFU.
- In such cases, you can freely remove my billing approval in the AFU portal and reallocate your funding to other services as needed, without any financial obligation to me.
Credit Card on File: Your Primary Guarantee of Payment
- To secure your enrolment and to ensure adherence to my payment policies, all AFU clients are required to provide a valid credit card to keep securely on file with me before services begin.
- This credit card serves as the primary guarantee of payment for services rendered, particularly due to the inherent unpredictability of AFU funding.
My Billing to AFU (and Your Responsibility for Non-Payment)
- I will bill AFU directly via the service provider portal at the end of each month for services rendered during that month.
- However, if AFU funding is delayed, reduced, reallocated, or for any reason prevents my invoices from being paid by AFU at the time of invoicing, the outstanding amount will be charged directly to your credit card on file. You will be notified by email prior to any charge being made.
- It remains your responsibility to ensure your AFU funding remains active, sufficient, and properly allocated to cover my services for the entire duration of the 9-week 1-1 Advocacy in Action Package. Any issues with your AFU allocation that result in non-payment from AFU will lead to direct charges to your credit card.
- I will provide you with all necessary information to assist you in resolving any AFU funding issues on your end.
Submitting an application for the 1-1 Advocacy in Action Package is the first step in exploring if my services are the right fit for your family.
- Application Does Not Guarantee a Spot: Please understand that completing the application does not automatically secure your enrolment. My package has limited spots (only 4-8 clients per cycle) to ensure personalized, high-impact support.
- Fit Is Paramount: I am committed to working with families where I can make a strong, positive impact and where there’s a clear alignment with my neuro-affirming, rights-based philosophy and my collaborative approach.
- The 15-Minute Fit Call: For applicants who appear to be a strong match based on their application, I will invite you to a brief 15-minute Fit Call. This call is an opportunity for both of us to ask questions, assess mutual fit, and determine if my package is truly the best solution for your child’s unique advocacy needs.
Here’s a quick overview of the steps once you’ve submitted your application for the 1-1 Advocacy in Action Package:
- Application Review: I will carefully review your application to assess if there’s a potential strong fit for my services and philosophy.
- Invitation to a Fit Call OR Polite Decline:
- If we seem like a good fit: I will email you within 3 business days to invite you to schedule your 15-minute Fit Call.
- If I determine the package is not the best fit at this time: I will send a polite email declining the application, sometimes with referrals to other types of support if appropriate.
- The 15-Minute Fit Call: This short call is for both of us to confirm alignment and ensure my package is truly suited to your needs.
- Offer of a Spot & Next Steps:
- For Direct-Pay Clients: If we determine it’s a mutual fit, I will offer you a spot in an upcoming cycle. Your spot is secured once you sign the Service Agreement make your payment.
- For AFU Clients: If we determine it’s a mutual fit, I will make a conditional offer. Your spot is secured only once I receive official confirmation of your full AFU funding approval in the portal and you sign the Service Agreement.
- Securing Your Spot & Onboarding Timeline: It is ideal that your spot in a program cycle is securely confirmed at least two (2) weeks prior to the official Program Start Date. This ensures you have ample time to receive and complete your Intake Forms, upload required documentation, and review your Prep Package before our Week 1 Intake & Strategy Session.
- Package Start: Once your spot is secured and onboarding complete, your 1-1 Advocacy in Action Package will then begin in the designated start week for your cycle.
All information shared during 1:1 coaching calls, document reviews, and private communications is kept strictly confidential. I will not share your child’s information or your personal details with third parties without your explicit written consent, except in cases where I am legally required to do so (e.g., suspected child abuse or neglect, subpoena). Please refer to my full Privacy Policy.
Details regarding early termination of the package by either party, including any applicable cancellation fees or non-refundable portions, are outlined in full within my Service Agreement. My aim is always to complete the full 9-week package to achieve your advocacy goals.
